500-502 Radiax

Brill built these closed tramcars with drop windows and 26-seats. The bodies were a longer version of the small closed Brill trams that Brill delivered to Lisbon in the same period.

These three trams entered service in March 1914 and were mounted on Brill Radiax E1 trucks. Radiax (radial axle) trucks were developed by Brill in 1910 as an attempt to have a 2-axle truck with a longer wheel base than common trucks and suitable for longer cars without the necessity to use bogies. The system wasn’t satisfactory and 500-502 were used on the routes without sharp curves. An overview made in 1963 said that these three trams were only allowed to work on the lines 15 and 16. It seems that in practice they were limited to line 16. All three cars were withdrawn in 1968.
